Creating your own necklace can seem daunting at first. But don't worry! It's easier than it seams. We'll go over these short easy steps to create your own custom jewelry necklace. Its a fun hobby and a lot easier than you might think. Here's our step by step tutorial.

Materials You Will Need:

The great thing about creating your own jewelry is that you get to choose how you want it to look. Your options are endless. Here we will go over how to create a custom engraved charm onto a necklace with a clasp. You can use this technique for making necklaces shorter or longer if necessary. This is a popular way of adding charms and pendants to your necklace. Or if you would like to add a pearl, shell, or stone charm that would work as well. Since this is your own creation you get to choose what colors, shapes, and charms you would like to add. You can always browse our charms here.

Necessary Craft Materials

First we need to cut the chain to the length you want your necklace to be. Here's a reference guide for the lengths.

Next we need to cut the chain to the proper length.
Measure the chain to the desired length and cut with jewelry cutters. Since we are adding a connector bar we will need two chain lengths cut.
Now we can add the jump ring to one end of the chain. The jump ring will connect the charm to the chain. You will need an open jump ring that will open and close.

The key is the twist the jump ring. This will open the jump ring.

You do not want to pull the jump ring apart.

Now you can add the chain.

Next we can add the charm or in this case we are adding the engraved blank.

Now we can close the jump ring by twisting them together. Remember not to pull apart the jump ring. You will do this for the other side as well.

Now we can add the clasp. We will need to add the clasp with a jump ring. The jump ring will connect the clasp to the chain.

Next we add a jump ring on the other end of the chain. The clasp will connect to this jump ring to close the necklace.
Now you're all set! You've just created your own necklace.
The most important part of this whole process of making your own necklace is that you enjoy yourself! At first these steps may seem difficult, but keep at it. After a while you will be making necklaces that look professionally made. Remember that practice makes perfect. Whether you're a jeweler or a hobbyist you can make your own jewelry with these simple steps.
